![]() ![]() This led to a big debate about whether or not Trivial Pursuit was getting "dumbed down" or not. Appearing in 1994, Genus III is considered the easiest Trivial Pursuit Genus Edition of all. It took Parker Brothers, who then owned the Trivial Pursuit license, a decade to come up with a new set of Genus questions. Genus II has the distinction of having the hardest "Entertainment" category of all editions of the game, probably thanks to a wider scope of Entertainment questions from earlier in the last few centuries. These cards had a yellow or cornsilk border instead of dark blue, though all the original categories and colors were intact. The biggest difference with this edition's Trivial Pursuit cards is the look of the card. Not the easiest and not the hardest edition of the basic Trivial Pursuit game, Genus II also came with 6,000 questions on 1,000 Trivial Pursuit cards. The front had just the thin blue border and the six color and category code markers along with the questions on the right side. The answer side had the word "Genus" in script on the left side of the card with answers on the right, next to the color code and symbol for each category. The cards for this edition set the standard for all future editions of the game-vaguely rectangular in shape with a dark blue border. It is considered the second-toughest edition of Trivial Pursuit. ![]() If you are a regular player you can easily unlock a category in a day without paying anything. This is the first edition of Trivial Pursuit. There is also a chance to double up the gems or win gems on the bonus wheel. With the new version you will be able to win gems (up to 35 gems with all 7 correct questions) every single game. We see the new categories as something to unlock while playing, not something you need to buy all of them at once. Maybe I’m wrong and there’s a way to just do one annual purchase for all categories? If so, let me know and I’ll update my review. I would pay that, but then should get to play any category. ![]() For all 30 - 40 new categories, would cost $600-$800! Most apps just do one annual subscription which is fine- at like $20-$50 one time purchase. So if you want to be able to just play any of the new categories, it would cost $20 per one category (1,000 jewels). I’m down to pay for the app, but it costs 1,000 jewels to play one new category. Needless to say, I got excited when I saw the recently added 30-40 new categories. But all of a sudden, ads pop up way more?! And my one biggest complaint before was I wished they did more trivia categories. I like this trivia app for questions and not many repeats. There is also a new gameplay we call "events" where you need to answer 3 questions in each of the 10 levels. When you install the new version you will see that there is lifelines to help you when you don't know the answer to a question. The bonus wheel is a new feature where you can win gems or lifelines. I cannot figure out the point of this extra stuff - since we only play against the app, why are these things cluttering up the game? Thanks in advance for considering providing explanations. That would be informative…just like the game itself. Is it free to spin? Does it cost me points to spin it? What purpose does it serve, or is it just a gimmick? What is the whole point of these bonus points? Are they just for some dumb bragging right on a “leaders” scoreboard? Can they be used for some purpose while playing a Trivia game? Maybe you could provide explanations for these adjunct items in your settings tab. While I understand it’s a wheel and perhaps it will provide a bonus, I can find no explanation about it. That said, I have noticed the addition of a lot of ads, and gimmicky stuff with no explanation of what the gimmicks are for or how they enhance the game, if they do at all. And that’s really all that’s necessary for the game to make it fun. To me, that makes it just like playing the Trivial Pursuit board game, which is very fun, challenging, and a source of learning some fun worldwide trivia nuggets. I really enjoy playing the game itself and answering the questions. ![]()
